This was an interesting article. It brought to light many problems I had in the beginning with my essays and drafts. After reading Mark Mason’s drafts I realized how radical you have to make your revisions. In his first draft he just gets his ideas down and then his next drafts show a radical revision and editing. I need to remember when I am making my first draft to worry more about the content than my grammar and spelling. I have to kill that urge to reread and make it better for the first draft in order to have a better overall paper.

Theme For English B
November 16, 2009I have always enjoyed writing and reading poetry. I find each piece to be always unique and everyone has a different interpretation. I like reading between the lines; however, Langston Hughes poem for english B is quit the opposite.
Langston is very straight forward with the way he writes. I feel like he is speaking to me. He begins his poem just describing the assignment and then continues to explain who he is, what he does, and where he goes. I found it interesting how it sometimes would rhyme and at others it would just feel like a conversation.
Langston wraps the poem up nicely by explaining how he is black and his teacher is white but they are BOTH American.
I enjoy Langston Hughes writing style. It is very personable and connects with the audience.

Why I Write / Sleeping with Alcohol
November 16, 2009I found ‘Why I Write’ a very interesting and different article. It had a nice introduction and I loved the conclusion sentence. It was a unique paper on all the reasons why Terry Williams writes. He starts all the sentences the same with ” I write to…” The essay wasn’t exactly the toughest paper to write but it had a unique writing style you don’t see often. Reading this article made me think of other ways I can portray my ideas.
‘Sleeping with Alcohol’ is a very descriptive paper. The idea of the paper relates Alcohol with a lover. Donna Steiner writes it in many different ways. She answers questions and makes it like a conversation to get her topic across. I found myself a little confused and intrigued by her writing style.

Another Fish Story
November 13, 2009Later in life the boy learned the true reason why the fish was brought home to die; its photo had to be taken to serve as a trophy. A trophy used as a conversation igniter for friends and family members that would come over, a trophy used as a mere bragging item. The boy was such a young child at the time that this circumstance confused him and brought him further into the world of the unknown, a world so new and unfamiliar. The boy was pressured into the whole situation; he was just going along with his dad, mom, and brother on a simple family trip. The family’s pressure brought the fish in, the young boy couldn’t block out their screams. He learned a valuable life lesson that day. There will always be pressures in your life but you have to learn which are right and which are wrong.

My Typography
November 3, 2009
The best thing about college is there are no rules! You are free… It is what you make of it! You can: sleep ing, wear what you want, go to class, don’t go to class, party, study what you want, dye your hair, get a tattoo, make mistakes, live on your own, stay up all night, eat what you want, be lazy, be active, do service, get involved, study abroad, change the world, try knew things, and find yourself.
I decided to write my typography to the audience of a junior in high school student because I want to inspire them and get them excited for the future. I thought about things that would get my attention and appeal to stressed juniors looking forward to no rules in college. I want to let them know it is coming close and It is what you make of it.

“Who’s on First”
November 2, 2009“Who’s on First” was my favorite typography on youtube. It works well because it gets your attention and paints a different image in your head. You can tell it is a confusing conversation between a young, want to be baseball player and an adult coach. The voices fit with the words what you would think a child and adult sound like. The little kid’s words are in a fun font with blue letters, while the more authoritative voice is in black with a times new roman font style. It is funny because of the crazy and confusing conversation, the boy is just trying to get a simple answer to who is on first base and he never ends up getting the answer. The typography fits perfectly because it is fast and confusing also. “Who’s on First” is too funny!

The Onion
November 2, 2009“FACEBOOK, TWITTER REVOLUTIONIZING HOW PARENTS CAN STALK THEIR COLLEGE AGED KIDS”
This was a video from Onion News Network that was very entertaining and, scarily probably true. They have this mother as a guest star, and she stalks her son through Facebook and Twitter. She explained to the audience how you can watch your kid by keeping track of their social life by signing up for facebook and Twitter. She told us how she writes on her son’s wall everyday and goes through all of his pictures. She pretends to be someone else and find out what he is going to do by using Twitter. The clip is pretty hilarious because there probably is some mom out there that does this or is taking notes. This is why I am glad my mom is technology inept.

Advertisements
October 24, 2009I found this commercial hilarious! It is very amusing and it grabs your attention. It was very effective. They were saying bad words equalling a ‘dirty mouth,’ when in reality the gum doesn’t clean your mouth that way.
This make-up picture is bold and strong. It grabs your attention. It’s audience is for adults wanting to look flawless forever. It is selling rejuvenation.

I think this McDonalds advertisement is cute and grabs you attention for the holidays. It’s directed audience I think is family. It says when families home for the holidays, spend some time together at McDonalds, where everyone can be happy.

This perfume advertisement has a very interesting picture. I like the artistic aspect to it. You can tell it is aimed for a more mature audience. It tells you how “it will transform you into whatever you want.” It sells everlasting beauty.

Adbusters
October 23, 2009
This ‘Absolute on Ice’ is one of my favorite anti-ads. It shows what you are really buying if you choose to abuse the product. Most people drink Absolute for one reason and that is the wrong reason. If you are drinking this you are poisoning yourself and pushing yourself closer to death. So when you think about ordering Absolute on ice think of it as this picture.
This adbusters website has a funny and honest political and economical position. They are honest and aren’t afraid to be mean. This website is aiming for the change of the way information flows. Just by the advertising for the blackspot shoes shows how they are environmental and want to change the world’s views.
The audience for this website is meant for everyone. Its focus is to change people’s narrow views on advertisement.
The anti-ads shown are connected to the sponsorship of anti-consumerism because they show how everyone isn’t buying a product anymore but buying the brand. They are buying what they think the ad sells, whether it be sex or rejuvenation. Anti-ads are spoofs on the product, drawing out the ads hidden message and bring to the eye of the consumers.

Advertizing Influence
October 21, 2009
I choose a Halloween Horror Nights advertisement! It looks terrifying! I already know the product is about Halloween. The advertisement is on a black page with huge bloody red letters splattered across it, "Come At Your Own Risk!" It has a huge picture of freaky characters from horror movies. The text though is what caught my eye. Red and white on black tends to stick out. The font jumps off the page so you can't help but read it and be intrigued to read more. The advertisement only takes up half a page in the Going Places magazine, but it takes over the page with all its colorful and daring pictures.
The add makes me want to go online and purchase a ticket right now! The audience is intended for teenagers to adults that want to be scared. This is a series of haunted houses that are known to terrify you! Anyone up to the challenge would want to go. Why watch horror movies this Halloween when you could feel like you are taking part in one! It’s almost a challenge of can you do it.
I have tried to go every year to Halloween Horror Nights. I love horror films and this event is no joke, it will scary you! Groups of friends love to go and be tough and just scared! That’s what this Halloween advertisement is about. Sure cutting pumpkins is fun, but try stepping it up a level…come to HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS!!!
